Hi Guys

Bit of a weird one - does anyone know what would cause a loud clunk when the foot is taken of the gas?

Less likely to make noise under very gentle deceleration.

Manual or Auto ?

Modded or standard ?

Could be propshaft UJ's or something as daft as a loose exhaust ...... more info needed

Seriously though, did it start suddenly, do you get thumps from the front when turning the steering, have you checked for worn or collapsed steering and suspension bushings, engine and gearbox mounts all present and correct?
Chock the wheels and go exploring underneath, it may be really obvious.
Grab the propshafts (4WD engaged) and twist by hand, shouldn't be any slack, slop or rattles.
Then hoick the front up onto axle stands and check the steering isn't all sloppy, check for broken springs, mounts etc, just put your common sense hat on and have a good look see, it may save you a fortune.
It's easy from an armchair but without more to go on we could send you on many a wild goose chase.

Checked all u joints. All seem good. Mounts and bushings all fairly tight. Have recently replaced a load of them with heavy duty ones.

U joints on front shafts replaced a few months back.


Not likely to be a bowling ball as I haven't played in ages 


Just can't get my head around what it is and kinda of difficult to get underneath when it only happens under fairly rapid deceleration to pin it down...

OK so UJs OK but if you have a small lift? Then prop angle will have changed....... This will cause a vibe or a whine......either on acceleration OR on lift off........

Get an action camera stick it under, go drive and make said clunk, go home and review footage and report back
