Pitman arm removal
« on: September 16, 2013, 08:27:28 PM »

I tired everything, soaking in release agent, heat, hammers, big manual pullers and nothing worked. Was about to remove the whole unit and use the press to remove it and a friend turned up at the workshop with a 10t hydraulic puller. I setup the puller in a 2 legged fashion and applied some pressure, a small tap of a hammer and the pitman arm came off.
I now want to buy a 10t hydraulic puller :icon_super:

We have a ten ton hydraulic puller set at work but I prefer to use an HGV ball joint splitter which works every time and is easier to set up. One like this is what I use.

I used one of those proper pitman arm pullers and still had to get the old hilti drill out with a sawn off sds drill bit and give it a good hammer/vibration - it did work though!
