Grand Cherokee ZJ 1996 fuel pump
« on: June 26, 2014, 12:22:12 PM »

Got involved with a bit of a charity job here.....

My ex GC now owned by the BIL has an issue. Replaced lower control arms for him for the MOT but now does a bit of stuttering at 50 but is OK either side of this.(control arms obviously not related :jpshakehead:)
Local mechanic says fuel pump deffo , no questions..........

Factory type ones are either £95 from Eastern Europe or around £200 over here or a kit looking thing that looks like a pump with 2 wires is £40.... How's that work?

Obviously factory is the easy option but let's have your thoughts on this before I donate a day to tank out shenanigans :hysterical:

If the problem is only around 50mph and OK at all speeds above that, when there's more load on the pump i ddon't see how it could be the pump. I'd have though TPS would have been more likely

Agree TPS threw up a prob like that when I had it..... not knowing what gear it should be in and needing to be driven on a very gentle throttle to baby it home.... TPS change and done......

Also when I was towing more than I should to Break Out Last year...... stuttering and not wanting to pull in any gear......but sure this was trans related as has never happened since it never tows now!

Test fuel pressure - potentially even while driving (passenger). I've got a gauge you can borrow if you like. Maybe scan for codes too.

As you know, it can be a couple of sensors or the fuel pump, best to find out which rather than just replace them all  :icon_redface:

I don't head over your way much at the moment but I'm not that far away in South Northants if you wanted to get the bike out and collect some stuff - I think I've still got the throttle body you gave me with MAP sensor on too. Or I can post UPS 1-2 day for less than a tenner.
