Cylindrical Air Filter
« on: June 06, 2014, 08:59:39 PM »

Which models of Jeep use a cylindrical air filter? I've done some searching and found that this type is often listed for the 2.5td, but mine has a standard rectangular airbox and filter.  Any ideas?

mk1 diesel was the only one which used a true cylindrical filter, the mk 2 (1997) used a square design with a curved top

Sorry, beg to differ though you may say I'm splitting hairs!

CJ2A had a cylindrical filter, so wouldnt be surprised if MB, GPW and CJ3B did too!

Maybe you could say the GPW was a Ford but the others were certainly Jeeps.

Ah, yes indeed, but they were all cylindrical in shape which was kinda my point!

Then again, anyone with a Donaldson filter on their engine could make the same claim I suppose.

Like I said 'splitting hairs'!

Dave has read between the lines and is correct. I ordered what I thought was a kit for my XJtd, however the air and oil filters are wrong, and it is this air filter that is cylindrical. I need a whole filter kit if possible, but information is tetchy at best, and just plain wrong at worst.

Have you tried to get your bits from the boys at Lighthouse?
If you asked nicely enough, they might tell you the correct replacment part numbers so you could go and duff up your local supplier. At least that way you wont be left with useless parts.

first one on ebay - there may be cheaper

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jeep-Cherokee-2-5-TD-OE-Genuine-AIR-Filter-Service-Car-TF4599-/330882872510?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Car+Make%3AJeep&hash=item4d0a27f4be

Thanks mate, but this is the exact issue; he part is listed as correct for my car, but it isn't. Mine has a rectangular filter and airbox fitted, so the cylindrical filter doesn't fit.

Oh, FFS, it's only an air filter.  :banghead: I believe you can buy correct air filters from something I recall is known as a Jeep dealer. How hard can it be? The part number is 53030730. Otherwise Crown Automotive do one under the same part number.
