Well the TD springs are finally on the XJ, and make it sit about 3" higher than it was. Just need to sort out the front now. What would be the procedure for putting the spacers in at the top of the springs? Apart from spring compressors, are there any other special tools involved?

Nope, easy job. Disconnect the bottom of the shocks, disconnect the sway bar links at one end, remove small clamp holding spring in place on axle. You should be able to drop the nearside front enough to get the spring on that side out, and refit with spacer without compressing. On the offside you'll get the spring out ok, but will have to compress it to get it back in.

Tim,
how did it go, fitting the TD springs? I've just been towing our caravan and even with it all weighted fairly well the rear end is very low when hitched, I was just wondering if fitting the TD springs would lift it a little..... or would it shag up the handling when not hitched?

To be honest, I cheated, got someone else to do it. Cost me 70 quid, which given that even with liberal penetrating oil, it still took 6 hours, isn't bad.

My rear springs were shot - arches sitting about an inch above the tyre, looking face on. Now it sits about 4 inches above the tyre. Handling is fine, no real difference.
