Are wj front brakes the same as jk?
« on: August 11, 2014, 08:52:39 PM »

I'm rebuilding a JK front axle and need front discs, calipers and carriers, I've been told they maybe the same as a wj..

So I'm asking does  anyone if they are the same or as anyone got any wj front brakes, or own a wj and wouldn't mind nipping to my place so I can just have a look to see if they are the same as my jk?

My jk discs are 302mm diameter..

I know it's a big ask, I live near Swadlincote..

Many thanks

FYI there are 2 options on the WJ teves brakes or akebono

1. Grand Cherokee front brakes - warped rotors
All 1999-2002 Grand Cherokee WJ models built through May 10, 2002 came equipped with brake calipers made by Teves. They are black in color with an open-sided bracket design. Due to poor caliper centering, the Teves calipers caused the rotors to warp, a problem that has plagued Grand Cherokees. At the very end of the 2002 model year, Jeep changed to "fully-closed" style calipers designed by Akebono. All Grand Cherokee models produced on or after May 11th, 2002 feature the new calipers. International models built on or after August 16th, 2002 also feature the new calipers.

Is there any headache in fitting the newer calipers to the older models?

No you can upgrade from teves to akebono as a direct replacement.
