I have changed the calipers on the v v cheap jeep and the brake light has appeared on the dash but no idea why

I have checked the levels, given the handbrake switch a tap and seems to be ok so wondering if something has to be reset?

No electrics have been tampered with so suspecting it is the reservoir level switch playing up after being filled during caliper change however thought I'd ask

Does your TJ have ABS?

No idea but its an early one -97 therefore suspect not

You won't have ABS then. Chances are your right about the level sensor. Check your fuses just incase

Might be a silly question but, when you gave the handbrake switch a tap was the handbrake off?

Maybe the shuttle valve has shifted in the proportioning valve. If the dash light goes off with the switch disconnected below the reservoir then the shuttle valve has shifted. Mrblaine on jeepforum usually suggests stomping down on the pedal several times to get the valve to reset.

It's possible you may need to bleed the back brakes, which would lower the pressure on the rear circuit to equalise the pressure on front/rear circuits and reset the valve.
