CJ7 Seat riser questions
« on: December 09, 2014, 07:51:45 PM »

Hi,

Ok this is a bit long winded but it should be an easy answer from anyone with a CJ7.

I bought mine a few years ago and some one has put some nasty halfords style bucket seats in it which are just horrible....
I managed to pick up a set of seats listed on ebay as "from" a CJ7....
But the risers in mine have been cut, welded and bolted together about so much that I can not tell where the original holes should be for the seats to bolt onto.

Could some one measure all 4 bolt holes and let me know the spacing to make sure they match up with my new seats before I order in some new risers.

Cheers
Rob

Hi Rob,

In the process of fitting a satnav in the WK so ran down the garage to take a few pics and measurements.

Nearside : swiveling forward seat length wise 28 cm - accross 36 cm

off side - drivers seat - fixed : length wise 28 - accross 35

Let me know if that helps otherwise I'll take some better pics.

Thanks Dutch.

That's spot on just what I was after. I can check the base of my seats now to know they will fit the new risers.
Does yours have the handbrake lever bolted through the side of the riser like mine. All the risers I have looked at look open at both ends.... Was this a UK modification ?

I could move the handbrake I suppose..... Who would have thought changing seats out would be such a hassle.

Rob,

The near side, tilting one is open hinged frames to allow it to tilt.

The off side drivers is two solid bits of Z-profile steel, with the handbrake indeed bolted to it on the inside.

Hope that helps.

Should look like these :icon_winkle: Did you win those blue ones that were on Ebay a couple of months ago?

Mine do not look like that. They look like they should but have been hacked cut and extra plates welded on. They passenger side has been bolted so it doesn't tilt forward any more.
I didn't win any on eBay, I have been looking but I guess they don't come up that often. I spoke to quadratec tonight who said all US risers don't allow for handbrake bracket so recon they are for UK spec only. I suppose I will have to try lighthouse..... And sit on hold for 15 mins while they look lol

Rob,

I'm still in communication with this Belgian chap breaking a CJ a probably has 2 original seat frames.

Do you still want me to pursue this ??  Think they might go cheap and I'm over there in February anyway.

Hi Dutch

Thanks for looking into the risers from Holland, I have decided that as they are proving to be a pain in the arse (the one that im trying to re-seat) I am going to take the jeep to a local and very helpful sheet metal shop just 10 mins from home and we are going to fabricate some stainless steel custom made ones so I can get them just how I want them. I will post some pictures of them when we are done.

Jan is always quiet so a nice little project to keep me busy.

Got the idea when I saw these..... http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f12/aftermarket-seats-stock-seat-risers-629048/
