Hi guys   

I have just bought a 1998 ZJ, its a great truck, I only had one remote with it and I understand that Jeep must use the computer to programme it, I have phoned Jeep in Bristol and they want £143 to supply and programme a new remote, but they are not sure if they can do it until they hook it up to their computer due to the age of my Jeep !  have any of you got experience of this or any way around it, I dont want my existing remote to pack up and then my ZJ s totally immobilised

Leave it alone if it works
the immobilizer and the remote Chrysler  unlock-er alarm are to separate   units. they are both fitted behind the head light switch.
the uk jeep fitter immobilizer can be removed by unplug the loom from it and plugging back in to the Jeep remote. then chase out the 4 wire cut in to the rest of the loom.
the key will unlock and start the jeep if the uk bit is removed i believe

I have recently removed my May and Schofield immobiliser from my ZJ after it failed. Fiddly but worth it.
