Cj7 top speed
« on: March 03, 2015, 08:53:34 PM »

Ive got an AMC 360 with a th400 and currently 31 inch tyres (They'll be 35s at the weekend though) itll do about 70 I reckon but itll be screaming at that so not pushed it passed 60 which is about 3000 rpm.  does this sound right?  Hopefully 35s will drop that a bit.

I run 33s with 3.54 diffs and it will easily do 70 but i keep it just below because of the mud terrains  :hysterical:

Mine had that setup and would go well past 80 no probs, sounds like 4.1 gears to me, 35s will knock the stuffing out of it, make it long legged but a lot slower...

80+ in a cj is fun to say the least

Amc 20 in the rear. Not sure of the ratios, I'll have to check. It's standard as far as I know. It'll smoke the tyres in every gear as it is.  I am aware I should be doing stuff to the axle but I figured get the rubber then deal with the many issues later

I have a 360/T150 in my CJ6 with 4.27 gears and 33" tyres, I can see 75/80 in mine but it's not comfortable, 3200 is 75mph for me

I have 2.73 gears in my CJ5. Not the best offroad but helps gas mileage on the road. I pushed it past the 85mph on the speedo once. Scared the living hell out of me. Jeeps were NOT meant to go that fast!!!

Must be a Jeep thing - my XJ does that occasionally :003:

35s havent changed it much,  seems to hold the road better than it did which is backward.  Loooks 100x times better though

i never really thought much about this  but recall how impressed i was after several series landrovers that my cj6 and 7 was good for the clock

and also the fact that in the early 80s i could beat most cars off the lights  even if they could overhaul me on top end
