Just had a nail through the sidewall so the tyre is fecked. When I had the XJ, it was the case that if you changed one you had to change 'em all to keep the tyre tread the same. Is this still the case with a WJ. I've got Grabber AT's with about 6mm depth, so at £125 a corner :eusa_doh: I'd rather just buy one.

how about getting the tyre repaired?


look at commercial/agriculture tyre repairers.

They will repair sidewall gashes for around £30ish around us - and certify the repair for road use.

On my full time 4wd trucks as long as it was the same make I have changed a single tire without issue. The diff in the transfer case is more then capable of dealing with the minor change in size.

And if you are down to 6mm of tread you don't have much life left anyway. You maybe able to find a used one of the same make and run this until you change all of them.

Just had it repaired. Because the puncture was near the shoulder, part of the patch went on to the wall. The tire fitter said it could only be regarded as a temporary because of that.

My fitter told me the same thing....seven years ago! It's still going strong.

Bizarrely from the sticker on the tyre it appears the dealer is importing part used tyres from EU.

A lot of tyers come from Germany as if a car is in an accident all tyres must be replaced as part of the repair

 We are not allowed to plug or repair tyre structure here either but thread area is ok I think ,in Germany once you take tyres off you cannot refit,that is why so many used tyres are on markets here and I presume UK,you must run winter tyres by law in Germany so most tyres only have 1 season use,it's more euro bollocks but anyway,lots of perfect quality  cheap rubber for those who can't afford here

If da Germanz were anything like as resourceful as Birtys people then they would all have tyre changing bays at home....... :hysterical:

Euro bollix gone mad......l


Only time I get tyre obsessive is with fast bikes..... Two tiny bits of rubber keeping you on the road......and I won't tyre plug unless it's a get you home fix.....l

wouldn't even contemplate repairing a side wall puncture.

raced on a few bike tyres with tread repairs, surprisingly no issues

IOM's old TGV tyres were still going strong after i sold them on, still using inner tubes

The Jeeps a keeper so I've decided to put a new one on if the consensus is the transfer case can handle it, and replace the others as and when funds allow. Thanks for the suggestions.

Was considering this as an alternative, but I can't find 18" inner tubes anywhere. Been told they don't make them. Does anybody know any differently?
