Ok,
Guy at work wants a grand, willing to spend up to r/s reg but worried about mpg. Will use it for tugging his caravan a bit.

So he's asked me about LPG conversions, best type, what to look for and servicing etc.

Anybody got first hand experiences  :?:  :lol:

4l will do 20 mpg without that lpg stuff to complicate matters

As long as it's a 4L a single point system should be fine.  He'll be looking at about £1000ish to have it done.  Better to look for one already converted but make sure it comes with an LPGA certificate else insurance will be a pain.
Other than that, it'll need servicing about every 12 months, and it's not something you can do yourself.
Then just sit back and enjoy fuel at about 40p a litre

Have read of people with single point on 4.0l XJs kicking out of gas and back onto petrol on any kind of hill. Guy who installed my system had in a Grand with single point on it - not installed by him - reckoned was a POS - can't deliver enough gas through 1 injector.

I've had fitted a Prinz Mulitpoint system - drive it hard and get about 14mpg on mixed town & motorway - many people getting much better, but I'm happy - injectors are wound right out and cannot tell performance difference between gas & petrol.

As with enything else, you've got to make sure you're getting a good system.   I'm running single point injection, and have never had that problem, performance is really good.

If he's going to try and find one already converted, then sure look for a multipoint, but if he's going to have it converted a good quality singlr point will work just as well on the jeep 4L engine.

multipoint is a far better method of injecting the gas but  is more spensive than singlepoint

The cost of the service varies dramatically depending on where you go.

His best bet would be to phone a couple of local specia;ists and get a quote. .

I was told to expect £50 per year just to service the lpg system..

There are some horror stories on this link so dont take to much notice and dont let it put you off, but worth a look it might hold some answers

At the moment Flogas are the cheapest I've found at 34ppl  
They're situated near Castle Brom, next to the motorway at M6 J5 (if you were getting off northbound M6 at J5 you head towards the Fort and go under the M6 IMMEDIATELY after you've gone under the M6 there is a right hand turn that runs alongside the southbound M6, they're down there.)

I use Calor in Coventry at 39ppl

There used to be a dirt cheap place over by Lye/Merry Hell

Hilton autogas at Featherstone 34ppl also 24hr filling if you sign up for a key. Morrisons in birmingham i think 30ppl but haven't been over yet.

I've got 4l running single point and it does struggle to fuel it over 3500rpm, but no problems with it otherwise. Just use petrol for over taking on twisty roads.

4.0L XJ on Single point and I must say it seems near perfect, much better than the Jag I had on LPG. Tows the caravan flawlessly.

My ZJ 4.0 has a single point system, runs great at all rpm, tows great, no noticeable lack of power when compared with petrol, get about 20mpg on gas, bit less when towing. Very smug at the garage when filling, even at the "ripoff" 47ppl motorway services....
