power steering fluid loss... Cherokee CRD2.8 2006
« on: October 21, 2015, 06:25:07 PM »

Hi Guys,

I got home tonight after a six hour drive, totally knackered to be told by my lovely wife that the "steering on her Jeep had become hard to turn".

I have had a quick look, fluid level extremely low, if not empty..! On topping it up about a 1lt, it all works fine.

Pumped it all out in a few mins though... Big leak...!!

I can't get to look at it till tomorrow afternoon so any suggestions where to start my search would be a great help...

I guess a hose are they problematic...??

cheers,

db..

Most common leaks are from the seals on the pitman arm or input to the steering gear. Hoses are rarely a problem.

It's a rack and pinion.

Forget what I said then. I was posting from my phone and just read cherokee. Didn't notice the year.

Its a hose, rubbed a hole in it's self. D'oh!.

It's the hose that comes down from the pump into a cylinder / canister affair...??

Any idea on part numbers or where to find it...?

Thanks...

Sent a PM with link to download the parts list.

If it's going to the reservoir or cooler they are on the low pressure side so fuel resistant hose from your local car shop should be OK.

Thanks for the manual, further investigation turns out to be high pressure hose, only pumps out fluid on full right hand lock..
