Now that I've just about cleared the decks I am ready to get stuck into the YJ. This is all new to me so rather than re-invent the wheel I am going to ask some questions that hopefully are boldly obvious to Birtys with YJs and maybe CJ, TJ etc.

Broken windscreen - I have a spare but it is in a rotten frame. Is there any chance of me changing the glass over or is it going to be a complete waste of my time. Should I look for a new screen in good frame or just call Autoglass and abuse the credit card?

Exhaust - does it need to exit outside the vehicle body? Currently it just end underneath behind the silencer. Also, for a 93 K plate I expected to see a cat underneath but there isn't one. Does anyone know if it will get through emissions without or if 93 is old enough not to need one?

Indicators - all bulbs (LEDS) work but only by hazard switch, not indicator stalk. Is this an easy thing to fix and all YJs do it or do I need to start stripping things down and get the multi meter out?

The current short term plan is just to fix the obvious and take it for MOT. Then I'll work on some of the more fun stuff and take it to the shops to scare old people.

Cat not needed until Aug 94.   
Mine hasn't and didn't need one for the MOT in the past
My exhaust used to exit under cill in front of rear wheel.....don't do it, tis bitching noisy and annoying even to my motorbike riding motorhead gig ears....and more importantly you will squish it cos I did.....
Run a straight pipe as far back as you can ,if no tank your blessed cos that's where my box is now.
Weirdly smaller box and quieter that it was by the door :icon_super:

Screen.
If any rust bin it.
Glass is about £70 I think.
I don't run a screen,kept hitting trees with it. So I have a 5 year old frame that is a bit doggy at the edges that has a screen with a crack in it. If you dumped the screen and put some grunt into a realignment arm pump would be a good basis ....(shout if interested)

Indicators.... Check fuses first...... Elects are usually simple on a YJ compared to Cherokees.

Have fun....... Me? I have welded a frame to the rollcage for seats to sit on...... And have more steel arriving on Monday for my winter SAD weld fest.....oh deep joy :icon_super:

New welder needed for winter tinkering, old 2nd hand SIP just died and I have no clue about fixing all the electrickery in a MIG welder. Free to a good home if anyone fancies trying to fix it

Yes auto correct, typing too fast on an I-pad with fingers that cover two keys at a time and drinking coffee,  talking to the missus, listening to Planet Rock and trying to leaf through the new landed on the mat copy of Bike mag.... It's never going to make sense.

I guess what I meant was do you want my old windscreen.....no rust cracked glass need a tweek to realign.

Note to tall YJ owners.....( tall rigs not drivers) at CF the amount of times my Jeep went from side to side in a rocking motion and smacked tree trunks and branches would have cost me 3 or 4 screens this year.... Hence the cage and no screen :icon_super:

I've got one screen in frame with good glass but bad frame, one other one with good frame and smashed glass. In theory I could put the good glass in the good frame but it involves removing a bonded screen from a frame - is this feasible?

Glued in I think so not easy to take out.

Think it's not bonded  as I seem to remember the windscreen man using a big knife thing to remove the old screen.

Ok, any ideas on the cheapest way to get a replacement screen?

Weather is horrendous here today so think it might be a perfect time to order parts

you can remove a bonded screen but it will take time and care if you want it in one piece. normally taking one out will have a high chance of cracking it if not very carefull.

fitting it is easier if you leave it to the proffessionals, they will do it in half the time you will take

This isn't true unless your jeep happens to be a class 5 12-16 seat bus, or  running on LPG at the time of the test. All Class 4 petrol engine passenger cars registered after 1st August 92 have to have a functioning cat fitted.

Led indicators check ballast resisters fitted.
speed of flash is dependant on bulb resistance  led low resistance flashes quickly or not at all .
Hence when an indicator build blows indicators flash quicker

For the screen use a pro. Per Mikes suggestion!
I've had loads of screens in the tj through the insurers; some took several attempts to get right. They always insisted on it being brought to their depot as it was 'tricky to do'.

Not currently insured but could be a plan

Looks like a cat will be needed, not a major problem.

Rain put me off today, have been wallpapering instead  :die:

Def try the insurance thing for the windscreen, had one replaced on site at work on the TJ a couple of years ago, getting old one out wasnt a concern as it was cracked, new one fitted no problem, its just a flat piece of glass, not like a Capri mutter mutter whinge moan  :icon_super:
