My guess is that the air gap for the clutch is too large due to wear. You should be able to take the belt and pulley off (can't remember the exact details, youtube is your friend here) but you can remove the clutch and then there should be 1 or more shims. Remove 1 shim and reassemble. The air gap is now reduced and the clutch should engage properly again.
An even better option is to see if you can buy a new clutch plate as this will last longer. But it will be a struggle trying to find one, if available.
Next option would be to replace the A/C compressor, as this will,have a new clutch plate.
