Ohm's Law and the number 1 wired Diesel injector
« on: January 29, 2019, 09:52:01 AM »

Hi Guys- new to the forum but been jeeping for over 20 years in 4 litre Cherokee and 360 Grand Wagoneer . This post re my 2001 60th Anv XJ 2.5 TD. ( 115,000 miles)
It has (what seems) the common problem of limp home revs limited at 2000rpm - after that power just fades and cant get over 60 on road.
All fluids and filters just changed and not smokey / doesnt burn oil or use water. Occationally it 'blips' back to normal for a while and full power is retored ( although didnt have my Fluke meter with me at the time...)

I've put my test meter on it a few times over the weekend cold and hot engine and get the same reading - 317 OHM's from the number 1 injector
1. Does anyone know the upper and lower acceptable readings? ( ive seen from 80- 120 is normal on forums?) so does my high reading prove its knackered ?

2. Does anyone have a used wired number 1 injector for sale ( the 2.5 TD ) - It seems they are getting thin on the ground and apperently stop manufacturing new ones in 2017 . I believe its part number Bosch 0432 217 249 or KCA 30S82.  i phoned round approx ten breakers and diesel specialists yesterday and waiting on call back from VM .

thanks guys

Hi
number one injector should be around 94 ohms so your correct about it needing to be between 80 to 120 ohms is correct.
Your symptoms the fact the engine won't rev past 2000  and the high reading of the injector would mean its your prob.
Give these guys a call they carry a lot of parts

If a second hand one does come up for sale expect to pay around 130/150 for it - or perhaps more if they auction it

Heads from the 3.1 work, so the injector may - I have not done that though

Thanks for replies guys , id seen the carparts.co.uk  and noted that one.  despite posting on a few forums and phoning around a used No1  injector hasn't turned up so biting the bullet and buying a new one;

VM offered me a second hand one for £240 plus post plus vat so £300- then they couldn't supply it as customer didn't confirm he wanted to sell it! Their new price is £287 plus post plus vat £356.40!!

so I've gone with carparts.co.uk £266 inc vat and post - part is coming from Germany , ill let you know how I get on! The guy at VM diesel specialist warned me they can be hard to get out, the pipes on the side can easily be broken if socket slips, He said he modifies a ring spanner and has no issues using that method.... fingers crossed

Buy a proper injector socket - it has a hole in the side for the wite to come through.

Also you may need to loosen the rocker cover to get it seated properly on the socket.

All of this is worth doing and then it is straight forward.

I've taken lots out in the past to sell

:banghead: So after extensive searching VM diesel had a nearly new number 1 injector. A week later after giving card details they told me they couldn't sell it as owner had decided to keep the Cherokee.... Finally after literally phoning 10 companies I tracked down a good used (and tested on)  in Germany for £147 including vat and postage . This arrived and I immediately tested the OHM resistance with my Fluke meter - Which is showing open circuit!! arhhhhh so this is going back to germany with refund ( but not the 2 weeks its wasted)  I have the socket with slot in at the ready....
Thanks bgbag- I did see this website before and have just mailed to see if they actually have the part. looks like im going to have to buy the new part.
I cant believe such a necessary part for the VM is so very hard to get, Incidentally someone told me the part from the 3.1 TD is identical to 2.5 TD ?
if anyone else has one spare please let me know  :die:
