Not done any camping for a LONG while and with the amount of photographic events I normally cover and wanting to do some offroading ones to it seems sensible to camp.

Two main things I'm looking for recomendations on is :-

1. Tent, being disabled crawling around on the floor dosn't really appeal so I'm looking for a 2-4 man tent for lots of space and for me to be able to stand up in the living area to cook and stuff. I also need to be able to put this up alone so don't want 50k poles to put together. Not worried about price

2. Cooking, don't really want to lug around a HUGE gas cylinder but on the other hand want a reasonable sized stove.

Any other camping pointers or recomendations on kit greatfully recieved

Was nosing about in Blacks the other day in Bluewater and they had some "Dome" style tents with a metal frame type setup as well, this gives you a good height in the inner square but the rest of the tent is fiber poles so easy to put up as well. Not sure how easy to build on your own though...

What are you going to be cooking, most the stuff I cook can be done on two stand alone rings, the advantage of these are easier to pack, and if you only want to take one, you can! no big gas canister either... Might even take 3 to CF if we need to...

I was at the mountainbike world cup in Fort William last weekend (27-28 May) I took my tent for a mental weekends camping. It rained so hard on the first night I was thinking of shitting in a crisp bag as opposed to going outside.
2nd night I found a B&B. £25. Shower, heating and a cooked breakfast in the morning. AHHHHHH! I`ve camped for years probably cos I was in the army and think its the thing to do but there are times when it stinks.
Take a walk into any outdoor shop and you`ll see tons of kit you`ll want to buy. Dont be fooled into spending a fortune on -40*C sleeping bags and £400 tents unless you plan the Himalayas. You can buy decent kit for little money like the guy above says a decent dome tent should do the trick with very little hassle in the way of erection

My cooking is basic at best, so won't be anything amazing, 1 or 2 rings would be more than enough I'd think.
I do remember seeing some really funky foldout BBQ designed to be carried on picnicks and stuff, may have a look at that.

This is the sort of tent I was thinking of but no idea how easy they are to put up.

Will check out the fibre pole tents, just with a quick look none of them seem big enough to stand in, will see what camping shops are near and poke my head in.

Coleman Dual Fuel cookers are the mutts for simplicity and ease as they are self contained and carry like a brief case. You can also use 'regular' pans on them.

I think I saw a 4 berth pop up tent for approx £70 in Tesco last week. Not sure about the height for standing up inside though.

The problem with the larger tents is the number of poles and their positions, which usually means more people are required to put it up, especially in windy conditions.

The best solution would be a caravan, complete with stove, fridge and toilet.

Or I've got one of these, similar kind of thing.

They're a good design with the dome as the living area, so it maximises space (and standing height). A bit of a handfull to put up on your own, but you can do it.

there's a camping place in collier row and it has all of the tents erected. At least that way you can have a browse and check out the acual sizes etc.

Check ebay and a Ebay shop called Tentastic. They do RAGE tents 4 to 8 man and bigger at good prices.

As for a stove! I usually keep the Barbie goin 24/7 and cook on that.

Thanks for that, after going through the site and watching some videos, looks like the Tourer 200 seems a good choice. Shows one guy putting it up with little effort and it's not to big.
I'll have a good look around at other tents before buying but at least I know know I can put up a sensibly sized tent on my own

I like their folding bed as well, much better than a blow up or a bit of foam and you can use it to sun bath

One of the reasons for doing this is so I can get to all these far flung locations for the Birtys offroad sessions. I think people would get pissed off with constantly recovering the van as I drove round

Well I've almost got everything I need now, ended up with a Khyam tourer 200 which i got off ebay with groundsheet for £160 used once. Put it up int he garden yesterday and it's sooo easy to get up

Only delivery I'm waiting on is the airbed, which should arrive next week.

Found a great site www.ukcampsite.co.uk the people on the forums are incredibly helpful and nice as I've been asking loads of questions.

Everything I've bought is based on my needs being disabled so the bed when blown up stands 24inches tall so I don't need to crawl around ont he floor. The chair I got for the wieght is incredible strong as I put a lot of weight on the arms getting up and down.

All in all I'm really pleased with what i've got and am looking forward to trying it all out. I'm aiming to go to a local site about 15 miles away for a long weekend to make sure everything works that way if I've forgotten anything I'm close enough to pop back for it.

Next trip will be to salisbury as I'm booked on the wessex safari so will do a fri-mon/tue there with lots of exploring the lanes while I'm down there.

Anyway, thanks for the help and pointers it was much apreciated

I just need to get myself a birtys jolly roger to fly above the tent

Trouble is.. it's ~ 8m x 8m and we have too much garden fat to fit it in the garden so will have to bribe the local campsite to let us put it up and dry it if it gets wet!

Ooops...

Also bought an ally table, a cooker and stuff

Just need a new water container now....

I got a 5l expanding water container off ebat 2 for about 4 quid they do them in different sizes.
