DIFF SEAL
« on: July 02, 2006, 08:20:26 PM »

Does anyone know which way round the seal goes in the front diff??

YJ dana 30 and its the off side outer diff seal which is located in the axle disconect, is it the seal spring to the oil side or to the outerside????

I've replaced it once but it is still leaking and i don't know if i have put it in the wrong way

Cheers Ian

I’ve not had the pleasure on a Jeep.  :)

But I’ve changed Diff, Gearbox, Half shaft and engine oil seals on many other makes of Vehicle, so far they have all been the seal spring towards the oil

But having said that, this is a Jeep were talking about

spring towards the wet side, make sure the channel the seal sits in is spotless otherwise the seal may not sit square to the shaft an leak

They do. The OX seal works on YJ D30's. Jim Waitt (JimmyJ) has put them in his, and i will this summer. The Superior one can also work on YJ D30's, but there is machining involved. I think, but you'd need to check it out, that if you swap in a RH axle shaft from a later (XJ) D30, the Superior will slide right in.
