CJ7, wheels and 33's
« on: August 22, 2006, 10:10:05 PM »

I'm thinking of moving up to 33" 12.50's from 31" 10.50's, my query is this:- I have narrow track axles and 2" of lift  soon to be 4", can I use the original wheels and fit spacers or do I need wider wheels with more offset :smt102 or is it called backspacing? If so what size wheels would I need?

just use your wheels when you have done the lift and adjust the lock stops till they dont rub the springs

Thanks, won't the back tyres rub the inner arch? They look pretty close now.

Cheers Bubba, could always get some spacers afterwards if they do.

If you buy spacers, get good ones..... I prefer wheels with the right backspace as although they still put the same pressures on the wheel bearings, you have less to go wrong.... Cheap spacers are exactly that. and dangerous too.

BUT! Watch out if you want to do any MSA events. Most aftermarket spacers are excluded...

It seems my rear prop don't like the extra 2" of lift, tyres on order, but I think I'll wait till after CF to fit them, then I'll have time to sort the prop and steering out.

Fitted 33" on my cj7 with standard wheels and had no problem on the rear.

Thanks Mr muscle, do you think the tyre's will go on with just the 2" of shackle lift or should I wait until I've got the +2" springs on aswell?
