TJ Breather pipe extensions
« on: October 27, 2006, 10:20:21 AM »

Where have you all extended your axle and gearbox/transfer box pipes too?

I am thinking of extending them and fixing them so they are plugged into the air intake box. Effectively so they draw air along with the engine from the snorkel.

Good idea/Bad idea what has anybody else done?

I am open to better ideas.

Also. I know where the front and rear axle breather pipes are located. Also know there is a breather on top the gearbox behind the engine. Is that breather just for the Gearbox or is it for the gearbox and transferbox? I ask because I cant sem to find a pipe for each?

Any help great appreciated.

Cheers

the air box is the common one. bear in mind the axle breathers are pretty high anyway and as for the gearbox it breathes in to the bell housing. i was in two minds whether to seal up the bell housing and put a breather out of the top but haven't done it yet so no real guidelines mate.

i have my breathers routed through my over screen bar but have been considering this kit as a better option.

Find ya nearest "Pirtek" outlet and make them up yourself (or if ya Asylum, nick'em off a mate) The pushfit connectors come in most thread sizes and there are options for plastic or metal fittings. The manifold in the ebay piccie is a good idea though

The easiest way IMHO is to get the double contectors, so you can just extend the originals.

Cheers  guys.

Thanks for the bits Frog  8) and am going to look into a manifold arrangement as pointed in the correct direction from Peter and Frog.

Greggmo, do you think it would be easy to block the bottom of the bell housing and attach a pipe on top? Or would it require some dandy fabbing?

After a long discussion with Frog and looking at his Landy setup, it seems odd Jeep designed it that way. There isnt some reason I dont know about is there? Nothing to do with cooling etc?

Thanks again
