grand cherekee 2.7crd wont change gear
« on: November 23, 2006, 02:01:09 PM »

Hello, can anyone help me please.
my cherekee will not change out gear i can get 1st and reverse. the fault codes have come up with
702 transmition control system electrical
703 brake switch stuck pressed or released incorrect input state detected in the brake switch circuit.
1130 fuel leak.
Has anyone else had problems like this, checked underneath and no oil leaks and all looks fine. thanks in advance.

The first two codes are likely to be connected to your gearbox issue - the third is not - check the fuel cap is on tight for that one.

Check your brake lights - do they come on without you pressing the pedal? You may need someone to look for you as you drive off. If so check the brake pedal switch and wiring.

If the lights are behaving themselves I would guess you have chaffed wires somewhere leading to the PCM - that will not be fun to find. Might be worth paying an autyo electrician for that.

The brake switch is usually two switches combined in one. One part does the brake lights, the other does brake signal to PCM for cruise, transmission etc. Just because the brake lights work, doesn't mean the whole switch circuit is good. If the PCM detects a 'brake on' signal at the same time as the throttle switch being off idle, it will put up a code and partially shut down into limp mode.

All fixed a little switch costing £3.96.
Jeep wanted £37.50 for half an hour to get the codes up and £75.00 an hour to work on it.
The codes on the key worked a treat and jeep was a bit miffed that i new how to get the codes by turning the key on and off.
Thanks for your help guys
