Dash Gauges/lights
« on: December 15, 2006, 05:20:58 PM »

Started my 4.0 XJ up today after it had been sitting at work in the staff car park for 12 hours. Dash lights came on as normal but all needles hadn`t moved. Check engine and airbag lights stayed on. I noticed after driving a few yards so pulled over and switched off immediately. upon starting again everything was normal. It had been raining all day. Was this just a damp thing or is there anything I should be looking out for?

If it's a '97 on model it's oxidisation on the multi connectors on the back of the gauge cluster. Remove the cluster and clean the terminals with a proper contact cleaner from Maplin, RS or the like. The factory fix for this was to cut off the connector ans replace it with one with gold plated terminals.
