Swing out tyre carrier in progress.
« on: January 13, 2007, 05:31:57 PM »

Finally dragged myself off the boards and out to the garage. I've started to use my (very limited) welding 'skills' to bodge up a swing out tyre carrier.

It still needs a swing out hinge which will be welded to my tube bumpers. I will also be adding a Hi-lift bracket and possibly a jerry can mount and 'rubicon rack' too. I will be making frame tie-ins for the cross member to take the extra weight.

I would like to end up with something like this;

I was going to get all fancy and make a plate. But 'on advice from my doctor', i went with an old wheel hub. Cut the back off down to the stud plate and it fit just right.

Powder coat would be great, but it'll probably be a few coats of hammerite.

If you did want to powder coat it, there's a mob near me that do it -

I've used their shotblasting service before, and they're ok
