please help with ideas... have just done an oil change and flush as presure was a bit low, have recenltly bought this car wrangler 2.5 petral... she runs well.. presure about 1/2 way to 3/4 when starting up then drops to just below 1st mark to 2nd mark when cruising... have noticed water drops a little and has a bit of oily residue in it,,...when i dropped old oil it was jet black and smelt old.... new oil in but filler cap creamy ... i am only doing a 1mile journey to work and another home once a week... car sttod rest... has the cylinder gasket gone, or going.... no noise from water pump. thought that might be leaking internaly.... water temp guage not working ...have new sender unit to fit... and new oil pressure sensor too... any ideas appeatiated... ...... have noticd another 2.5 engine for sale in items for sale.. will it be cheaper to swap or rebuild what i have?

If you're only ever doing a 1 mile journey the engine will never warm up properly and you'll get mayonaise in the top of the engine. This is simply condensation mixed with oil vapour. It's very common in vehcles that are only used for short trips.

you are doing so few miles i wouldnt be to suprised to find the oil filler looking a bit creamy and it would seem you arnt realy going far enough to geting the engine properly warm to test you head gasket worry if i were you i would fill the radiator brim ful and leave the cap of and let it tickover and watch for bubles apearing in the radiator to test the head gasket also if you were geting water in the oil you would notice the oil creeping very slowly up the dipstck over a period of time if you do see noticable bubles in the water then you need to do a compresion test as at least one but probably two would be down you say it drives well so i am thinking that as 2.5s dont make many ponys you probably dont have any probs as you would notice any loss of the power you have

thanks for replys ... thats what i thought about the creamy cap. water is going down though and has oily residuein it... will try toinght and leave engine running for ages.......until new water temp sensor fitted unable to check guage.... will also fit new oil sensor next week....... oil checked still golden from oil change.... showing smalll amount of condensation on edge of dipstick...... when engine running with oil cap off you can see bits of cream nocking about....no bubbles in expansion bottle but very slowly going down........ after each journey have to add a litre of water.... no sign of water leaks anywhere.....engine ulta smooth plenty of power. also have induction kit fitted.......
