Alternative brake calipers

I've got disc brake knuckles, hubs and vented discs but no calipers.
Anyone found an alternative caliper that is easy to source and works ?
No problem making mounting baracket to attach caliper to knuckle.
I was wondering about Defender items ?

Don't quote me on this, but I have this niggling in the back of my mind about someone saying that they'd used calipers off a Rover 600. No idea how you'd find out if they were OK other than looking at a set to see if they'd fit. I would have thought any factors would stock them.

i believe thats for the rear as part of the mdg disc up-grade for tjs.

When I upgraded to 35" tyres I fitted this kit. The results were fantastic.

Initially I was a little dissapointed but after they got fully run in they easily lock up 35" tyres on dry tarmac. Good feel too, I would not like to have standard brakes on 35" tyres.

When I got the m.o.t last week I asked what the brakes were like and was told on the tester the fronts had 400kg and the rears (std. drums)150kg.
I do not know what the standard calipers would produce.

not wishing to piss on the party but i think the standard  fairly large drums are more than man to stop a morris traveler

That is more then true for the original 1098cc engine  :D
I intend using something a little bigger - probably something like Ford V6 with Transit gearbox (shorter than car version) as I've already got a Dana 300 with divorced adapter.

That's a mystery  :(
I got the complete axle a while ago of another Birty.
I believe it was off an early CJ7 that had thrashed the diff.
I just kept the knuckles outwards (plus drive shafts) and then passed the casing onto someone else.
Somewhere, deep at the back of a lock-up are a pair of brand new Defender axles (not mine - belong to a cousin who lives abroad) so I really should make the effort to tidy up and "borrow" a caliper to try as I think it might be adaptable.
I know for certain the calipers off our everyday Chrysler aren't suitable as I've already checked them out !
