Yes there is I have seen them on american websites but can't remember where???.   The rear shouldn't be too much of a problem as most Jeeps have their arse dragging on the floor anyway    just get some old springs off somebody!!!!!!

Don't think you will get a lowering kit over here though, you must be the only person owning a Jeep who doesn't want to get the thing as high as possible.  :?

Good Luck

why do you need a lowering kit ?

ref mk1 jeep.

the std suspension is crap and soft for handling purposes, buy a decent set of suspension and the vehicle is transformed. even with my 3.5" R.E lift the handling has changed considerably. i drive the jeep at times like a sports car (old job test driver) and it only understeers when pushed hard (rwd), alot more traction and still some understeer with 4wd.

lowering the jeep will help a bit but will not turn it into a sports car. how much you want to drop might have problems of clearance  underneath and a change of tyres or even wheels (additional cost) might be needed. rear leaf springs might have to be custom made or sourced from the states and the ride just might be too hard and look daft.

not voicing an opinion either way but giving possible ideas

IMHO replace the suspension from the std and drive in 4wd will make it more sure footed

I would suggest harder springs and shocks and stiffer anti-roll bars with poly-bushes to help with handling. There's really no need to lower an XJ they are lower in overall height than most people carriers anyway.

my wifes vitara has almost the same roof height as the jeep even when lifted which is a bit of amusement.

If you REALLY want to lower your XJ then contavt Elliot at EDM http://http://www.edmjeep.co.uk/

He has motorsport experience, and has a yellow XJ that he lowered to make it handle better.  One of the Police forces in the Midlands (IIRC) had lowered XJs at one time as motorway vehicles, so there must be kits out there somewhere.

I had the yellow EDM Jeep as a courtesy car once and can report that it handles very well

I don't think it ias actually lowered, just stiffened and widened. From memory it had lower profile road tyres, wider, more offset wheels, and stiffer springs/shock/anti roll-bar. I remember thinking tha rear leaves were quite stiff 5 leaf versions.

Eliot at EDM would be a good person to speak to.
