nice one mr hill . all cj7s came with the amc 20 septin the very last 2-300 made when they simply ran out of stock at the factory in86 this may in fact have been in 85 as that would have been the 86 model year so they just ordered a few 44s from dana to finish cj prodution. so you should have a 20 unless its very late or someone already swapped one in there already .
the 20 is deemed inferior to the 44 and standard it is but is easy to make it stronger than a 44 just by fitting after market shafts it already has a larger ring and pinion than a 44 so diff wise it has the advantage

I did not know that a Dana 20 could be stronger than a D 44 by just getting rid of the two pice shaft.    Nice to know  :D

I agree, BUT!
Some of the one piece shaft kits are suspect.
If it says "not recomended for tyres over 31 inch dia" in the sales blurb they aint  any stronger than the 2 piece originals.

yup well the answer to that is not to be a cheap bastard
moser shafts
aloy usa
superior
are exelant
as are warn at a warn price if they still do them
the 4wd and other bargain ones are proly better than the old setup
and to be truthfull if you make sure the nuts on the two are kept tight and cheked regular like they will take a lot of abuse it is almost always the kerbside shaft that fails you can bet that a pound to a peice of shit
