xj part time warning light, handling? help?

i drove my 93 xj up road. to change from 2 wheel drive to 4 wheel drive. the part time warning light has gone out but i dont have a green light? do older xjs not have a green light? how would i know if it was indeed out of part time? how would it handle? would it be slightly noisier in 4 wheel drive than 2? help i dont want to harm her

When turning on a surface like gravel you would feel and hear the tyres 'jump' or shift as you drive (slowly). The green full-time light may have just stopped working. Mine did for a while, then a good jetwash and it started again! You do get more noise in part-time 4x4 than 2wd but full-time 4x4 also gives more noise too, if you aren't familiar with the noise levels it would be a bad way to diagnose what setting you're in.

but since the part time light comes on in part time. then if its out in full time its prob working fine? how does the warning light work?

Don't know about any one else's but i can tell instantly I'm in part time, i can feel it through the steering it feels very tight when the front wheels come into play,  and my mate's is exactly the same. it's a very obvious difference hope this helps.........

Im now pretty sure that its not in part time as the handling hasnt changed greatly!!! and ive been all over the country side and it hasnt felt odd at all!!!

yep same here. with four wheel drive the steering and handling in general is a lot better than in 2wd only.

When in four wheel drive full time, handling is good and positive. If you were in part time, which is for loose surfaces you wouldnt be able to turn corners as the front and rear axle are locked together. you would prob blow up the transfer case or at the very least snap or damage the transfer case chain.

Incidently, i changed the bulb in my full time indicator on the dash last week as mine wasn't working either.

Not just normal mud. You could drive a muddy field in full time 4wd. We're talking the kind of mud that you sink 12 inches in, very deep ruts, 45 degree inclines, 3 feet deep mudholes, rocks etc.

You need to go froadin' and understand what these machines are capable of.
