Finally found a new XJ But...................
« on: January 20, 2008, 05:04:01 PM »

After checking out 10 Jeeps (fussy bastard) I finally settled with this 99 4.0 Orvis . I drove it 537miles home from Hastings. I checked as much as I could but missed this.

The electric fan blades are bust. The connector was unplugged and slyly pushed out of obvious view. The 3 broken vanes were at the bottom and went unnoticed. The rest of the car is fine. FJSH, 47K miles.
I have a replacement off my old XJ here. Is it a big job? Any easy swap?
Any tips guys as I`m pretty hamfisted.

2 little screws at the top then it lifts out IIRC. While it's out, make sure whatever happened didn't damage the radiator.

Cheers Mike. Even I could manage 2 screws. Whats IIRC? Is there anychance it could be a motor?

drop in lugs locate the bottom a couple of scres at the top should take you about 10 mins as the screws are self tapping bolts

Cheers guys, by the way, it ran about about 100 on the temp gauge (right in the middle) now and again just a ball hair over. My last two were a ball hair under. I take it this is a fan related thing?
i`ll keep you posted with my hamfistedness

The electric fan is there to help because you have the aircon condensor there in front of the radiator restricting airflow and generating heat when the A/C is on, even if you are on defrost. It will probably run a tad cooler in traffic when you fix the fan.
