cherokee buying advice?

Hi you all!
I am totally new here (will post an intro next) and thinking of getting a Cherokee to use as main vehicle, off-roading now and then (nothig extreme) and as transport for mountain biking (1-2 bikes). I understand they are reliable enough, but very very thirsty, so it must be and LPG vehicle, like this one: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1999-JEEP-CHEROKE ... dZViewItem.
If page not working, item no is 110202740997, basically a 1999 LPG Orvis, 73 000 miles, 3995 asking price. What price should I pay for such vehicle? What things should I check for? Is rear sag a common problem amongst Cherokees? Which model do I want (1999 would be the oldest I'd consider)?

I have a 4.00cc Tj and I don’t think it’s that bad on fuel. I must get at least 30 to 40 to the gallon, Lamp post’s that is.

my xj does around 22 mpg can get more on long journeys but remember when you buy one of these you are accepting the fuel bill that goes with it. being lpg converted you will still have to fill up as often as normal but it will cost you less. A 65 ltr tank doesn't mean you will get 65ltrs of gas as you can only fill it to 85% of its capacity due to pressure and expansion reasons.
 the rear springs will sag and look flat, just one os things. give lighthouse jeep a ring and upgrade to the diesel spec (1" higher). There shouldn't be a rust issue with this age of jeep. the earlier ones had problems with rust around the boot floor  and the rear wheel arches (boot floor to boot side). The engine should sound smooth and quiet with no rattles or bangs, a service history helps, but even that is no guarantee of reliability. everything should work electrically and the oil pressure sensor is known to fail (they either work for ever or fail two weeks after fitting).

THank you guys, appreciate your help. The Jeep on Ebay looks good enough, and I've been in contact with the owner. Can I also ask what are the main differences between a Cherokee and the Grand C, apart from looks and size (the later is bigger, is it not)?

the grand cherokee has a different styled body  and has for coiled springy bits on each corner, the noraml xj (your looking at) has coiled springy bits on the front and horse cart (leaf) springs on the back.

The GC drives very differently, a lot softer and not as nippy. Best to drive them both and see what you like.

Hi1 When you say 'softer' ride for the GC, do you mena the Cherokee is 'choppy', in comparison. Mean on-road, of course.

It's still comfy but has a sportier ride. The GC is generally more ponderous and wallowy.
