I have a '51 GC 4.7 V8
As I mostly do motorway driving, I'd love for the Cruise Control to work but it doesn't.... the 'Cruise' appears on the dashboard but it won't set.
There was a disintegrating piece of rubber tube coming directly of the ... plenum chamber? :? (Could be talking total bollox here ... it's the cast metal bit that creates the vacuum).... there is a good bit of suck there... the tube has been replaced, still no Cruise. The tube is attached to a convoluted 2nd tube that sort of has a square formed into it... this meet a T piece ...good vacuum here too..... the T piece is a stiffer plasticy tube that runs accross the bulkhead at the top near where the bonnet meets. The T piece goes left and right. The right, passenger side, is a short section that drops down to a rubber end cap. I've removed the endcap and good suction there too.
The left, towards driver side, is long and runs full width of the car. It drops down below the radiators remote header tank, where it joins back onto another rubber tube. Good suction to this point. The rubber tube runs towards the front of the car, under the header then under the fuse boxes.... I can't follow it any further.... where do I look from here. What else could it be?
Maybe the switch on the steering wheel doesn't
actually do anything? :? Is it possible to remove the switch to test it or am I likely to set the airbag off?
Thanks in advance
