Remote Fobs
« on: January 30, 2008, 10:08:13 PM »

The insurance are coming to collect my old XJ (as salvage). Was wondering if the fobs can be reprogrammed? Was thinking of keeping one as a spare if it wasn`t too much hassle. Also any ideas what I should do with the FJSH , documents and folder? Give it to the insurers too?

The Jeep is programmed to accept the remotes, not the other way round. You need a dealer to do it for you.

Be careful robbing your old Jeep for bits, the insurance company have paid you for a whole car and they might not take kindly to getting only half of it back.

The get a key and a fob so can operate the jeep - they do not know how many you had.

I'm just about to get this done with a spare i've bought (Quoted £29 +VAT). The dealer told me that the codes on the rear of the fob must match otherwise they won't work.

Apparently they have had loads of people buy spares off ebay without checking this and had to break the bad news to them.
