i dont think so!
The 2.5 gearbox is an ax-5 and has a smaller pilot bearing. The ax-5 will not hold up very long to the power of the 4.0. Also i think you'd need a 2.5 transfer case too as the input shaft on a 4.0 transfer case (np231) is 23 spline and 21 on the 2.5.

true it's a nv3550 (i have one in my 2004 wrangler) but ceggy's wrangler does not fit the model year change, saying that it could be made to fit........i believe it's a recognised upgrade. but we are deviating from the original question.
