Red Hot Drums

No not a new band!
I have rear axle issues:
Just had the TJ serviced & MOTd; it came back with the best handbrake & stopping action ever!
However the one drum (driver side) is severly heating up during use (wheel becomes hot to touch).
 However the brakes aren't binding as when jacked up wheel turns freely.
Has something broke off within the drum & dragging?
Axle tubes etc are not heated.

Also had a good clunk on rear axle during take off; replaced the sway bar bushings etc; seems to still be there. Lack of lsd friction modifier or something more severe?

Any suggestions before I get it apart & order new parts?

I stopped an RAC patrol man to take a look; he confirmed the brakes weren;t binding; test drove it & then commented that when in 4WD H it was very clunky to turn. :-x  Oh dear; obviously didn't know it should be run on paved roads in 4WD. Hopefully didn;t wind up the tranny too much!

i would think maybe a spring in the drum has come off letting a shoe just rest on the drum so as you drive it generates heat but not binding the brake take the wheel and drum off and have a peep

Take it back to the garage that buggered it up. Even better, make them collect it.

If they've buggered around with your handbrake to make it pass the MOT, they're responsible for making sure it is safe and working correctly.

Definately, if it wernt doing it before, then there must be an issue, not necessarily a balls up, but sometimes shit happens accidentally.

Hi Guys, cheers for the input!
Yep took it back, they'd actually done a real nice job on the brakes; deburred the drum etc.
The drum fell off nicely & they simply backed the brake off a bit; all ok now.
Bubba; I too thought it may be a bost spring.
Turned out they'd just been over ambitious on the potential braking!

Makes me think that maybe my drum walls are getting a bit thin (98k miles on them) hence the build up of heat. Coupled with overworking them with 33's.

Still have the bad knocking noise on take off.
Can't be the roll bar bushings as theyre new!
Maybe track bar, loose shock or fubarred axle ?
