Rear Lamp Failure warning
« on: May 19, 2008, 05:21:35 PM »

Hi

I'm trying to tidy up a 1998 (S) Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 Orvis for my parents and it has a couple of annoying problems.  The first one is that the rear lamp failure warning won't go away despite the lamps working ok?

The second is the electric aerial is refusing to go down when the ignition is switched off.  All fuses seem ok - any suggestions?

Thanks!

Remove the radio. Does the aerial go down then? If it does, the radio is buggered. If it doesn't then either the radio sense wire is broken, or else the power to the aerial is broken, or it's just jammed in the up position.

Thanks, will try those things - thought it might be just stuck but wasn't sure how much pressure it could take if I gave it a manual shove!

Check that all the bulbs are working in the centre brake light.

Hi

It was an incorrect bulb in the rear centre brake light that was causing the problem with the map failure message.

I've given up on the aerial - can't find anything obviousl and no amount of WD40 will shift it  :-)

Thanks for all of the advice!

Probably electrical. Snap it off and shove a bent coat hanger in the hole.
