Kickdown has stopped working
« on: May 27, 2008, 04:38:59 PM »

Hi

My Grand Cherokee 4.0 Orvis petrol has developed a problem with the kickdown - it's stopped working.

The Jeep goes fine in Drive but manually putting it into 1st causes intermittent groaning and will not pull away - I'm guessing the 2 things are related.

I'm I looking at a new gear box?

Your best bet is to go to a local auto transmission specialist. If it can be repaired, they will know.

Took it to a specialist, £1000 to fix so it's now beyond economical repair.  Thanks for all of the advice - next stop breakers yard for this GC, hoping to scrape back a few hundred quid

Can't spend any more cash on it, had it up for sale for £1250 and had limited interest.  Now I've just got a feeling i'm throwing good money after bad.

Maybe i'l advertise for spares or repair - let someone else have a go!
