Rear end issues ( keep it clean ya pervs)
« on: June 02, 2008, 04:47:21 AM »

Hola Amigos,

My rubicon D44 rear end seems to have developed some excessive play. Starting out from a stop, in first, there is a pause after I hit the skinny pedal, before a noticible clang, and then teh jeep starts to move. Climbing underneath, the rear drive line turns as soon as I hit the gas, but seeme to turn before the rear end engages. I have yet to crack open the rear diff. as I am still nursing with partially torn bicep, tricep, and rotator cuff . This happens in first, second and reverse.

while driving , I let off the gas in traffic, then accellerate, the same thing happens.
Its a 5 speed, and not too long ago ( 5 months ago) I had the clutch rebuilt, and new seals in the gear box

I am starting to think it's the Rubilocker that is having issues. With the noises I get while reversing, while turning, the occasional clanking while starting out and turning, I think the LSD/Air Locker may have gone TU

Any guesses as to what may be going on, and what I may need to get the play removed would be appreciated.

PS  would willing pay in bacon sarnies for  the diagnosis, but the bacon here sucks

Cheers

Martyn

Well I finally was able to take the cover off the rear diff,  and ran a magnet all over the place, and found................................
Nothing, not a sliver of metal, no filings, no large chunks, no chipped teeth, nothing.............
I guess that is good news...........
