Playing around today with different pressure in the Tyres. Before now i have generally ran what i run on road, off-road. But over the past 2 events i have been gradually dropping pressure to see the difference.

The differance has been slightly noticable. But i dont wont to throw a tyre.

Today, just tried the tyres (insa special track) i have at 12,18,24,30 & 36 Psi

Bumping up a small log, you can definatly feel and see the tyre at 12,18 Psi flexing and working to your advantage. Where at 30,36 Psi the tyre kicks and has less feel.

But im pretty sure at the 12psi and below. Too much of the loud peddle and hard turning will throw a tyre

IMHO air down to 20 or owt for rocks etc...

16-18psi for me. I've seen people often running 10-12 without losing a bead but I get good results at slightly higher.

I  run 15psi  usually and  have been down to 10 occasionally.  I failed twice to make   a climb  w fully inflated tires, had to  drop to 12 to  get the footing  I  needed to finally make it.

When I fitted my 33" MTRs I did a chalk test to see what pressure would be right for even wear on the tyres. At 18 psi the tyres eventually sat on the full width of the tyre, and they have worn pretty evenly. I have over 50k miles on them now.

I have 8 inch wide rims and have aired down as far as 8-10 psi with no problems - so far. might be worth a look at... Tire Pressures for 4-Wheeling

I know I can air down my Cooper STTs down to 8psi, but I don't air down, I know of too many oops moments where tyres have got crap in the bead, it's not worth the agro IMHO.

not realy looked into airing down, i just run the tyres as normal then pump them up after a couple of months if needed

I'm with Roland on this one. Have aired down to around 18 psi when I got to a site and bellied out on a set of ruts I usually have no probs with  :lol:

Tried it at Jeep fest couldn't see the difference....would like to try if doing some kind of rock crawling..

i ran 33x12.50-15 bfg muds on 8 inch rims down to 10psi most of the time it did make a huge difference an ended up getting pulled out of places alot less.
also once stuck in the forwand direstion virtually all the time i could still reverse out where as pumped up i was well an truely stuck!

i was hard on the throttle an tight turns never crossed my mind but still i never poped a rim.

just think of it as youve got a spare for a reason!!!!

airing down depends on the type of terrain IMHO.

I have only done it in when stuck in sand.
wouldnt bother in mud or gravel and rocks

When i first started off roading with Suzukis on road tyres, some one told me to air down and it made a huge difference, since then I have always air'd down, BFG MT 33's to around 18-20psi, if I don't its alot harder ride and alot less traction. Normally run at 25-28psi on the road so even that little bit helps lot and at 18-20 its ok for the run home.
