97 Grand Cherokee Alarm Problem
« on: June 19, 2008, 05:47:30 PM »

Hi all, I'm new to this forum and new to jeep ownership too!  I have a bit of a problem with the alarm on my 97 Grand Cherokee 4.0 petrol and am wondering if its possible to just disconnect the thing all together.

I have had the AA out who reset the alarm after I was unable to get in the vehicle without setting the alarm off.  The immobilser was functioning correctly, ie that turned off with the remote but the alarm was not de-activating.

The AA chap said the reset might have fixed the problem forever or there might be an underlying issue with the alarm/wiring.

cheers for any input or suggestions.

The alarm and immobiliiser are one and the same. If you don't want either you can stop it arming by disconnecting the wiring where it is spliced into the drivers door central locking harness.

Cheers for the reply Mike.

That's exactly what I want to do, it will save loads of hassle I think.  I live in the channel islands so theft is not realy a major problem.

Would it be possible for you to give me a bit more details on exactly what I need to do please.  If it's easier I could give you a ring sometime and you can describe over the phone what I need to do.

I've only owned the car a short while and so am completely unfamiliar with what lies behind panels etc which is why I could do with a "muppets guide".

Thanks again
