ok hi there i,m in the middle of fitting a 2"old man emu to my 95 xj but cant seem to extract the bolts holding the rear leaves on :-)

soak with enormous amounts of WD40 days before you attempt any suspension work on a XJ

As i remember the bolts almost seemed to have been put in the wrong way round so they hit the body before coming out far enough.I seem to recall having to kind of twist the spring to get the bolt out far enough to release the spring,then when i put it all back together i just swopped the bolt around

They rust into the metal centre of the spring bush sometimes.

Yep, and are a real PITA to get off. Have spent a weekend removing the front 2 bolts once. Rears are easy as you can sprray the threads. Lots of oil and hammer!

They all rust the bolt to the inside of the steel insert that fits in the rubber bushing if you see what I mean. Had this on a YJ.
Get a tin of 10  4and half inch 1mm cutting discs for your angle grinder cuttoff wheel or whatever and slide up the side between shackle and bush. Problem solved in I minute per corner.
You will need new bushes and bolts tho. But now's the time to fit rifle drilled bolts and poly bushes so that you can lube them regularly and the prob. will be gone forevever

:wink: but they were rusted in the sleeves oh and yep the top shock mount screws did snap off so tommorow i,m doing the rest but i can see light at the end off the tunnel :wink:  oh and thanks again carlos.

I replaced the back springs on the oiler recently and they fell off, all I done was to wire brush the threads where I could get at them, like the u bolts, bit of wd40 and off it all come really easily, I think I must be the only one thats ever happened to, but doing the binge drinker now and the top bolts of the shackles are just going round and round and not undoing so the nuts turning too so's the bumper got to come off.

six gallon of wd40 and an air wrench.....thats what I used on mine.....socket wrench??no chance.....but first get em loose with a breaker bar and a size 10 boot!!!

connect the front of the spings first then the rear as you will have some form of adjustment.
