C.A.T or Resonator thingy ?
« on: June 30, 2008, 09:48:07 PM »

Is the box on my exhaust that looks like a cat, a cat or a resonator. And if it is a cat, do I have to have one on a '94 reg and would it pass emisions test without one fitted.
Thanks in advance........longman !

Yes, it's a cat.
Yes, it's a legal requirement on post 08/92 vehicles.
And no, it won't pass a MOT without one

As you say, it's a bit of a grey area. As we all know, a Jeep engine is as enviromentally friendly as the space shuttle and the probability of it passing an MOT without a cat is at best slim. Better safe than sorry?

I ran a de-cat pipe on my Skyline and it made a huge difference, much much better. But on the Jeep, completely the opposite. Wierd

Thanks all.....I was thinking of running without a cat between mot's, but if there is no performance gain then I'll  leave well alone. (my cat has had a patch welded on and has another hole/split. Seen them new for £50)

£50 is a good price.

Got mine off Ebay for £25, bloke was 10 miles up the road

If yours  is split and has already had a patch welded on it's probably shagged anyway.

When I hit 2000 revs the cat is blowing like a good'un. Thats the reason for the swop !
But I'll swop it and then have the booze......mmmmm Booze !!!
