Tore my 231 apart do my sye and tara2low kit, and was not happy with what i found. The atf was black, and seemed alittle low. (my fualt i know)
The mode select fork seems crack all to hell and the plastic pieces are burnt to hell. The back half of the case seems to have small cracks spidering through it also.
Now trent and kingcj tell me this could be the normal, and just be casing marks or cracks.
but heres the kicker....... the planetary gear looks shot. the back plate has a row of cracks and deteration below the indent for the planet gears.

in the end lesson learned, DONT COOK YOUR TCASE!

Has anyone else seen this before?

I think you will be ok jj.  I saw all of the same shit in the casing its just because its a casting.  Do you have pics of the other cracks.  I have rebuilt quite a few of these cases now, and know them pretty well.  Your gona love that 2Lo.  I use mine all the time.  I even use it to park in my garage just cause I can.

Had one of the shops at work "x-ray" the case cracks, and they are good but im pretty sure the planetary gear top plate is cracked, but johnny said run it so i am debating even worring with it. Only real worry I have is if it does give out(i dont drive nice and smooth) it might just take the entire case out. If so how much does another 231 cost? in the states ive heard you can find them for 100 bucks.

what is it out of Mike?
im sure i can strip it down and use the planetary gears, but it would have to come from behind a stick shift trans for the rest to work. I might have one on the way, but if not i will deff. be calling you.
