anyone know where the paint code is on my 1998 chrokee jeep 2.5 td?
i think im looking for 'pnt' followed by a three digit number, i dont think ive seen as many plates on a vehicle, but nothing like a paint code.

Follow Nosebolt's diagram, I've just done mine - JN, Moss Green. When speaking to supliers the code may come under Chrysler rather than Jeep

I've just painted a hood vent (functional!) using paint mixed up to my code. This is the secong time I've painted things to match the body colour and both times they come out a shade darker.
I suspect my bodywork has faded with time so it may be worth going to an auto-paint specialist and having some colour-matched paint made up.

is your car metalic? if it is you will ahve a nightmare matching it, when yo spray metallics they have to have the same amount of coats of paint as the rest of the body to come near matching, plus if its coming up darker try using a yellow or white primer, that should lighten up the overall colour

Any paint with suspended particles will also need to be painted in the same orientation as the mating panel, i.e. if the door was laid flat then the wing must be painted laid flat as gravity will affect the way the particulates settle and therefore reflect light.

Thanks for the tips, it all sounds rather complicated.
The Moss Green colour is a dark green pearlescent finish and it seems both mine and dougal's Jeeps are over 10 years old, so probably far from the original shade.
I used a very light grey primer but might try a white or yellow as suggested. As for orientating panels I wouldn't know where to start - most of the stuff I'm painting isn't replacment / repair pieces but extras like extended wheel arches, vents and winch mounts.

thanks all, i suppose thats one advantage of a clearcoat it does offer some protection for the basecoat, some colours are worse than others,
i remember a rolls royce sprayer telling me that if you gave three different chaps the same mettallic paint there would be three different finishes...
ive only got the back bumper to do on mine so shouldnt be too bad.
