This happend in my wifes Sportage  any tips on how to get the broken end out?

google it, house key snapped off in the lock and the mrs got it out in about 2 mins after googling 'how to get a snapped key out' or summink close to that

Just use a screwdriver to operate the lock or ignition.  Did that for 2 years with my old Sierra.
