Hi to all
02 crd grand cherokee again
Not much heat from heater :cry:
First of all
Engine temp  40----100----125
Mine only reads a shade over the 40.
What is a normal running temp reading :?:
Thermostat stuck open or stuck in the bin.
Is there anything else that controlls the water flow

2.7s take forever to warm up due to the thermal efficiency of the CRD engine. Do you get heat after a long run?

I have had a few jeeps and all the temp gauges have read low, I put it down one of two things, the fact a lot of the US is warmer than us and the cooling sytem is hence a bit over efficient for our wonderful climate and 2 guages are never 100% accurate.
after that thay can be a whole host of possible reasons why it is only getting slightly warm, blocked pipes, sticking valves,sticking mixer vents, sticking thermostat,blocked heater matrix, air lock, its just a case or working thru it all methodically and seeing how it goes.
I did have a yj where the thermostat housing cover was corroded to a point that it reduced the flow of water to the heater outlet, once changed no problem!

I can get a luke warm air after about 5 miles.
Its no hotter after 50 miles and no hotter at 70 mph
It will also idle a shade over the 40 degree  mark.
Its as if there was a 45 degree thermostat fitted.
I was thinking it would be towards the heater end if the temp was up arround the 80/100 but I dont think I have any hot water at all. Top hoze towards the rad is not hot.
What do you think the number 1 thing to do is :?:

There may be a lot of the US that is warmer but there is also a few places in the US that are a bit colder, like Alaska and where did they find that 2.7 crd. No excuses for bad aircon or heating in those places then.
Thanks for the probable reasons but could you list them in lightly order.
The guage may not be 100% correct but 40/50. Is that not supposed to be water temp at the hottest place in the engine and therefore possibly I have no hot water to heat the heater with. What would give a low temp reading, a faulty guage yes but what is liable to prevent the water reaching operating temp. Is ther anything else controlling ther water temp

The CRD has a viscous heater to boost the coolant temperature when the engine is cold. It is on the top drivers side of the engine, belt driven and has what looks like an aircon compressor clutch in the pulley. Start up from cold, turn the heater on an make sure the clutch engages on this. (the centre of the pulley is stationery when disengaged and spins when engaged)

Ok did what you said
Engine cold and turned on the engine
Result = centre of the pulley is stationery :-)
So is this as it should be?

Iv'e got the same problem on my 4ltr xj never gets over 40 but if you leave it on idle It goes up to 80+ anyone got any ideas
