Electrics question...part 2..FAO Mike P

Hi Mike..are we talking about the Fuse and relay box on the left hand side(looking from the front)..had that open and I can see fuses/relays for..ABS..FUEL PUMP..I/WIPER ..ASD.etc. plus loads of 20-30-50amp fuses etc but nothing marked IOD..am I in the right place..another small fuse box down by drivers feet area..(sod to get into)...

It's usually marked inside the lid of the box.

I think it's fuse 15, 40amps under 'da hood' innit.

I'm looking at data for a '96 Grand.

I think it'll be in the owner's handbook if you still have it. Anyway, worst way you just have to pull the big fuses under the hood one by one until tou find the one that kills the interior lights - that's the one.

OK Mike,thanks for your time,I dont have to touch the big relay thingies do I ?,just the ordinary fuses..40-50amp ones.. :D

found it..#16...IOD..cheers... :lol:  :o  :D

UPDATE..
It definitely is #16 mini fuse (10AMP)  in the fuse box by the drivers feet..which contols all the interior lights,glove box lights etc. pulled the fuse and they all went out..

The hand book gets abit confusing,showing that #15 fuse in the Power Distribution Centre is the IOD (40AMP)but when I pulled that all the lights still stayed on..????

Well went away for the w/e ,pulled the fuses that we had sorted out and...nothing..all the interior stuff stayed,yet the other day pulled the same fuses and it all went out,I give up,there must be something really wrong in my electrics,in the end I dropped the battery lead off,come Monday afternoon put the lead back on and it all went ok,no problem with tick over etc,must be some gremlin in there...gettin peed off with having to re-set everything tho` I think my love affair with the Jeep is coming to an end... :(

Fuse 15 under the hood supplies everything that has power to it when the ignition is off. Fuse 16 in the footwell is fed from that fuse and protects the interior lighting specifically. However, it's not as siple as a few bulbs and switches after that. The interior lighting (and most other functions) are controlled by the Body Control Module (BCM) and a bank of relays which worl by taking signals from various switches and sensors to determine when to turn things (like the interior lights) on and off. This is why you get a strange delay when you turn your headlamps on, for example. It may be worth checking that the relay for the interior lamps isn't sticking, but, to be honest, if you pull F15, it shouldn't matter. Try taking F15 out, then testing F16 with a test light to see if it still has power to it.

Right...had a better look at the fuse boxes today,and ..yes..Fuse#15 under ther hood and fuse#16 in the footwell do turn off virtuallyall the interior lights..footwell..overhead console rear int lamp etc except the lights on the 2 front doorsit is easier and less hassle to pull fuse #16 in the foot well rather than having to keep setting the radio and date and time all the while,I am still having probs with the drivers door overloading something and have had it happen twice within a couple of days,dont know whether that is causing other probs else where,any way thanks for your help,see how things go for the next few days...
