remote locking/alarm

I have just bought a 1996 2.5td xj, and it didn't come with any key fobs, just a key for the doors and one for the fuel cap (i think)  but above the rear view mirror is a little black dome that looks like it is to do with the remote locking gizmos..   I had a quick look through the owners manual and it mentions the remote but not in any great detail.  Did this model come with them as standard or was it an optional extra etc...

It will have come with one infra red remote. If you can get hold of one, they are user programmable.

its the only one i can find that is for a 96 (ish) and mentions cherokee aswell as grand cherry..

oh well, its not the most important thing i should be buying right now, I'l just keep my eyes open for when one does come up.  failing that i supose its a stealership item??

unless there is anyone on here breaking one or has one they want rid of for some beer tokens??

You can buy after market alarm with centrall locking out put i bought mine from maplins, it was a portman about 40 quid and took about an hour to wire in, and could offer some assistance if required

Now there's and idea!! why didn't I think of that!? lol  I was planning on an alarm but didn't think about using the outputs for the doors..

It's an IR remote which you aim at the black dome.
It doesn't work the immobiliser  fitted to my xj but does work the locks.

Price has gone up though only cost me £20 delivered.
