I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee 1997 and it has just failed the mot on the headlamps. They are saying both beam patterns are incorrect and that there is no “Kick-up” to the left on dip, they even suggested that the bulbs might be in upside down! They only go in one way. From the information I have seen only European spec lamps have this feature and that the “American-British” type (no E mark) which I have fitted, have a virtually flat beam pattern with no kick-up. It has passed previous mots without this problem, I did not contest it at the time as I thought I had better get my facts together first.
Basically should I contest this failure? The lamps are correct for the vehicle they dip and main beam correctly, that’s it! There is no more! Are these lamps legal in this country? It is a 1997 model new into this country at that time and always had these lamps, although replaced about 2 years ago with like for like. Is this a case of a bit of mot tester education?
Your thoughts would be appreciated.
Cheers
John
