Wheel bearing unit removal
« on: March 18, 2009, 03:36:58 PM »

I'm trying to remove the wheel bearing unit but it won't budge. Knocking on it with a hammer didn't help.

I found THIS but it's not making any sense to me, it looks like it's just gonna pull out the axle shaft.

All ideas and suggestions will be very welcome.

Cheers

EDIT: That trick did work, it wasn't the steering knuckle that was tight, it's the bearing hub stuck and rusted in the wheel hub.

Anyway, got it all out and now I regret not buying the UJ tool, cheapie clamp from Halfords is useless...

You could perhaps try periodically spraying the said areas with copious amounts of a penetrating oil or WD40 (or even diesel i believe works too) over a couple of days to try and loosen things up

OK, big hammer, sockets and brute force has worked, I got it out one way, got one cap off but the "+" thingy won't come out.

What do I do now?

EDIT: found a tutorial that says I got to push it the other way to get the other cap off.... I'll save that fun for tomorrow.

i used a three leg puller and hit the hub with a large hammer, this slowly released the wheel hub.
