Anyone know a decent place to have a 2" lift and nice alloys/tires fitted in the UK? Preferably Kent, or the south of England. I would probably buy the parts online and pay someone to fit them, but a company already having the parts in stock and able to do the work would be ideal. I don't really fancy paying shipping for 4 x Alloys and tires but I live in France so it's no easy to get the parts I want over here.

Got my CJ lift done by A D Motorsports in Kingswood (just nr Maidstone/Leeds Castle) in Kent, bout 5 mins off the M20, tel 07831790049, dood called Tony Davey, nice bloke, and more importantly, honest!

Lol, time to be shame faced :oops:

was havin so much work done on 3 different cars at the same time I just took an overall bill for the lot, he has been doing my cars for quite a few years, and my familys/friends etc so just trust him to do it for a fair price.

his main prob is that he is always busy as he doesnt rip folk off and so they just turn up with stuff all the time without bookin, and he never says no, so if u were gonna use him, you need to say something like: I will drop off on monday, BUT must have back on thursday etc etc

To be honest I am not sure what kind of lift I need. I know I want bigger tires. It's all so new to me. People talk about 31's, 33's and 33's and backspacing. :shock:

I think something like http://http://home.comcast.net/~rmagers/origimages/topless.jpg would be ideal. This lift kit (http://www.roughcountry.com/jeep_tj_combo_2.html) looks good for it. How does a 33" equate to UK tire measurements?

33" tires and a 2.5" lift seems to be what I need.

To be honest u may be better askin the question in tech, my CJ was a 4 inch lift for 33's, but dont know how that would translate to yours

or have a trawl thru the pics, and see if there is one there that fits what u want

or do a direct search in tech

I got a tuff country (or was it ruff country?) lift coz altho they not top of the tree, they supplied all the extras that you would need, so the price is more realistic, but im a standin in the corner with a pointy hat when it comes to tech so I would post over there for the spurts to help ya

Got a 2" Old Man Emu suspension lift on our 98 Sahara & 31" tyres on it. No rubbing & very good articulation.

Remember that if you go for bigger tyres you will need to ensure that no bodywork is fouled when off-roading & also you will need to re-gear it, especially if its an auto.

You can fit 31's with no lift but they may rub.

If you go much higher than a 2" lift you may experience driveline vibration. If you then rectify this with diveline mods like a slip yoke eliminator (SYE) to go higher for bigger wheels & a re-gear you will need to look at different backspacing wheels, i.e. make the car wider as the cars centre of gravity will be raised & will then become top heavy.

The more you lift, the more effect it has on other components, the greater the cost.

The best budget combination is 2" spacer lift, 1" body lift and 31/10.5 R15 on your stock rims.

I am considering a 2.5" Suspension / 1¼" Body Lift with Shocks (http://www.roughcountry.com/jeep_tj_combo_2.html). Clears 33" tyres.

Extras:
1" Motor Mount Lift Kit
Perf. Steering Stabilizer
1.5" Wheel Spacers
Rear Track Bar Bracket

It comes to around $600 (minus the shipping). But it seems to get good reviews. I think this should do the trick. I don't mind spending the money, but what is more important to me is that it performs well on the road as well as off. I don't do extreme 4x4 and I commute in my Jeep.

Might find you will need to re-gear the axles with 33"s because you are considerably increasing the gearing ratio's :wink:

i would only go for 31's and have more room to flex, you also save £ but not having to re-gear etc and maybe have to run a SYE

also the rear track bar bracket will be LHD so will need something fabbing

for less money the budget boost and 1" body lift with 31's seems a better deal as Mike and others have said :wink:

Yeah, kind of deciding to just go 31"s on stock now after all this info. Seems far less hassle/cost. Probably Cooper 31/10.50 R 15 ST's with the MT rims. :-D

Then when I know more and do more, get a lift. I kind of look the way the TJ sits stock to be honest.

put your 31's on, might have to adjust steering stops thats all

then go off-roading

next best value for money is some front sway bar disconects, they make a huge difference

give it a try then think about lifts etc

remember the higher you go the more £££££££££££

Actually, tech is for questions about standard Jeep parts, and Workshop is for modifoed Jeep questions, so it's in the right place.
However, you raise a good point about looking at pics of other people's Jeeps. Have a look in the Members Rides forum at the
bottom of the main index. If you see something you like, it should say what mods they have got to achieve it.

It was on a YJ and it was 10 years ago, and I am still chopping and modding and changing!

Seriously,..... It's been said above but believe me I've been there.

Stage 1.
Get a 1" bodylift it looks standard but just helps a bit, also good for getting jetwash on to top of chassis to get rid of mud.
Get 2" lift kit OME are good not cheap and Rubicon Express are great, but I'm biased as I've had 2 of theirs. Then fit
31 muds on standard rims.
THEN Go out and play and enjoy. This will be the cheapest bang for your buck you will EVER have.......
If you get stuck a lot playing with the 33" and 35" mates then get a cheap new winch £500 Superwinch or whatever, you'll also be popular with your mates too.

Stage2
As said above 33s and above WILL require a SYE and propshaft, and a re-gear and while your there, mad not to put in lockers and Warn chrome moly shafts as the standard ones WILL let go (how do I know???) And then you might be after a couple of inches extra lift and that will be the cheapest addition at this stage. Oh yes, and 4 and half inch offset rims for your 35s

Stick with Stage 1 for at least a year before doing anything rash you will not live to regret this advice... Am I right guys and girls???!!!!!!

Then 2 inch puck/spring lift

Seems to get to most places .
